act of liberation from bondage (releasing a bird) has been practiced to embody
the Buddhist teaching not to kill the living things. Very often doves are used for
this. In Christianity, releasing a captured bird into the field symbolizes the
Resurrection. In China, it is believed that releasing a bird attracts good
fortune and traditionally they release doves on festivities and celebratory
occasions. Having evolved from these traditions and customs, today doves are
released in various events as a pledge for peace. |
